Niaz Khan is a Managing Director of DMS Governance Ltd. (DMS), the world’s leading fund governance firm, where he leads all aspects of client service delivery across multiple product lines for Hong Kong and Asian clientele.
A specialist in hedge funds and private equity, Niaz has lived and worked in three major financial centers – New York, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong and has gained considerable expertise, experience and best practices in fund governance, fund start-ups, regulatory and compliance work, which he brings to his current role. Leading a fully operational DMS office in Hong Kong, Niaz pursues business development opportunities, promotes fund governance in the Asia-Pacific region and manages the relationships between service providers in the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong. He joined DMS as an Associate Director in 2008 and worked for three years in the firm’s Cayman Islands headquarters, where he managed fund governance for a portfolio of hedge fund clients, focusing on diverse client needs and providing support through outstanding technical knowledge.
Prior to joining DMS, he was an Associate in the finance division of Goldman Sachs & Co in New York, where he oversaw the management of approximately 140 investment funds with more than US$22 billion of assets domiciled in the Cayman Islands, the United States, Ireland and Guernsey. He began his career with Ernst & Young in its New York head office, working in the Assurance Asset Management division. He was later transferred to the Cayman Islands office, where he served in a similar role. Niaz holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Baruch College of The City University of New York. While in university, he interned with international tax divisions of Salomon Smith Barney and at Deloitte.
Niaz is a member of the Hong Kong Securities and Investments Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and is a regular speaker and contributor on topics relating to fund governance and offshore financial services at forums in the Asia-Pacific region.
